Texas based its proposed redistricting on Texas “voting margins” in the 2020 Presidential campaign. It was not based on race, ethnicity, or gender biases as suggested by the Democrats.

Texas political campaigns have a very small window to file for the 2026 Primary Ballot – November 8, 2025 to December 8, 2025. That time is coming up very soon. Yet, the Texas Democrates are attempting to prevent a timely filing to avoid the filing of five newly proposed Republican districts.
The State of Texas has been sued by a coalitioin of advocacy and civil rights groups after the redistricting bill was signed into law. The Texas congresssional democrats had attempted to prevent passage of the bill by abandoning their seat during a 30-day special session.
When the Texas Democrats finally returned, another special session was called. The bill was passed by the Republican majority. Shortlly thereafter, the opposition filled a objections with the Texas Federal Court in El Paso, Texas
Plaintiffs hope to prevent the new map from being used for the 2026 midterm elections. They argue the newly drawn districts are intentionally gerrymandered to give minority voters less power.
After a week testimony by the plaintiffs, the state will present its case. Amongst other witnesses, the state is expected to call Adam Kincaid who is believed to be the legislature esponsible for drawing the new district lines.
On November 18, three appelate court judges placed a temporary block on the redistricting map. Governor Greg Abbot will appeal to the Supreme Court.
